I'm still alive!

You would think with the huge gaps in my posts that I was super busy... or dead. Luckily I'm still here, but not so busy.  Just boring.  Let's get caught up shall we.  I recently had my 27th Birthday. It did not feel like a Birthday does when you are 9 and you are so excited about growing up, and having a party with all your little friends, and presents, and being able to do whatever you want because it is you special day.  It was just another day that I just so happen to get hundreds of Facebook post! lol  Growing up is not at all what you think it would be when you are a child.  Although I would rather be an adult than go back to my youth, I think Birthdays should be made a huge deal of!

In the past month we adopted the most adorable, loving, funny, beautiful Meyers Parrot named Indigo.  He is 17yrs old, and just sooo much fun I can hardly stand it!  In the morning he whispers 'pretty bird, pretty pretty bird'.  And says 'hello' when he is ready for you to let him out of his cage.  My dogs are doing pretty well with him coming into the house.  Jetta is already ignoring him and his cage.  Which is just awesome.  For safety though the girls go to their room so Indigo can have out of cage time with me.  As much as I would like to I just can not trust that they will leave him alone and not want to chew him up.  But we have worked out a schedule and I think it is pretty fair for all involved.

It is so much fun having a Parrot, especially one that talks, but remember that birds are a lot of work, and are very sensitive to many many things that you use everyday.  So please do the research before bringing any bird into your home for their very long life.  Many Parrots live to be 50-80 years old.

We also applied with the local Greyhound rescue to become a foster home for a retired racing Greyhound.  We had our home visit where they come to your house and make sure it is a safe environment for one of their dogs to be housed till they are adopted to a forever home.  We were approved, and are now on the foster listing, and just waiting for a Grey that is small dog friendly.  Many are not since sight hounds have a prey drive, and like to chase small animals including small dogs, cats,  rabbits, etc.  Gotta make sure and keep everyone safe and sound.  We are both very excited about having a big Grey in the house.

This past weekend was a great one.  The hubby and I went South Saturday and enjoyed some nature.  We climbed around some very dangerous looking cliffs, and hiked around Point Lobos for a few hours.  Sunday we aired up our bikes and hit the Monterey bike path.  We went out to Pacific Grove from Seaside.  The round trip was approx 30 miles!!  I know, we are both nuts!  I must say that even though I had loads of fun... I need a better seat on my bike.  It is not the most comfortable thing at all!  But we had fun, and the entire weekend was just amazing!!  I am so lucky to have such a great man for a Husband, and best friend.

Birds on the brain!

Awe, have you missed me? It has been a while since I have dropped by, and I apologize.  Not a whole lot has happened in my life... aside from the decision to go forward with the long awaited adoption of my very first bird. Super exciting right? I know!  So since I made the decision to go ahead and start the adoption process, it's all I can think about!  I am so excited, and trying to think of other things.  But that does not always work.  You see I have been thinking about getting a bird for some time now, and now that it is finally in the works... I feel like a kid who knows something awesome is coming up, but does not want to wait.

But like a good little adult... I know that things will work out for the best, and the wait is very much worth it.  I plan on adopting a bird who is in need of a home, not to purchase a baby from a breeder, or buy from a pet store who only supports breeders.  At first I was unsure, but now I know that I want to give an unwanted, deserving bird a loving home.  This Sunday (2/20/2011) my Hubby and I will be driving up to San Francisco to attend a Bird Care Class that this particular rescue has made mandatory in order  to adopt from their rescue.  I happen to think this is great, and I can not wait to meet these wonderful people, and get to learning more about fids! YAY!!

I have my eye on a cute little Green Cheek Conure who is currently known as Petre.  I think I like the name, and it is a good possibility that if I am lucky enough to adopt him I will not change it.  Unless I have the overwhelming feeling that it just simply does not fit him.  And then we will see about a different name.  Of course I have not met him yet, but from the description provided by the rescue/foster parents.  He seems like a hoot, and super fun.  I am looking forward to all that is ahead, the ups, and downs of keeping birds.  It will definitely be a learning experience for me, and I am looking forward to every moment.

That's all I really have for now... but keep in mind that after I get to adopt, and bring home our new feathered kid aka fid, I will be posting a lot about him/her and telling you all about his/her silly side, and crazy antics! Woot! I love sharing!

Childhood memories: what are your favorites?

Tonight I was having a hard time to sleep.  So what do I find myself doing.... Stumbling through craft sites, and chatting on Facebook to my friend Amanda about childhood memories.  Makes my mind float back and forth about the random things I remember from a young age.  For instance I remember one winter day when me and my family still lived in New England. It was my last winter there... I was in the 7th grade.  It was a school day, and I decided I did not feel good.  My school let me call my Aunt Rose to come get me because we could not reach my parents who were working.  She came and picked me up, doted on me, and all of a sudden I felt all better!  My cousin Jeniffer and I walked to the store for some reason, and we goofed off in the huge snow piles.  I do not remember details, but I remember having fun on our walk to the store.  There are pictures somewhere that we took, and I have never laid eyes on.  I should ask her about finding them so I can share.

I also remember when I was very young my Mem (my Mothers Mother) lived on the 10th (top) floor of Senior Citizen High Rise, at the very end of the hall directly out front of the elevator.  Every time we went to go visit, my brother, sister, and I would race all the way down the hallway to see who could get to her door the fastest.  Most times she would be outside her door waiting for us with open arms, and the biggest most loving smile I have ever known.   She always had a little glass candy dish full of Mentos, and she always had the pink ones (my favorite).  I thought she made the best pancakes ever, she always had coloring books, and if she thought you got out of line she would make sure you knew it!  Not that I ever got in trouble. :/

One xmas, I believe I was in the 7th grade in this memory also... my parents, and siblings went to Ky to visit friends for the holidays. I did not want to go, and I got to stay with my Aunt Rose, and Uncle Derek.  At this time they lived on the 3rd floor, and they had a real tree for xmas.  When it came time get rid of the tree instead of carrying it down the steps, and having to clean up the mess the branches left... we both thought it would be a good idea to shove it out the window! I will never forget the sight of a tree falling 3 stories landing in a big thud!  Good thing it did not hit anyone!  I also remember him letting me watch scary movies at their house because I was not allowed to watch them at home! But we'll keep that between us.  ;)

That's all for now. Please, feel free to share a favorite memory or two from your life. We like it when people share!

Oh the anxiety!

To be totally honest, I am not the type of person who has a fear of going to the dentist. Seriously, I even look forward to going in and getting a good cleaning. Nothing better, except for the feeling of new socks, and that ridiculously proud moment you finish a craft. But Tuesday I have an appointment to get a root canal. :\ Not looking forward to it, but at the same time I can't wait. Too long ago I had a filling fall out, and as it held on for dear life, it took a small piece of the tooth with it.

I had a bit of pain, but nothing too bad. And after a little bit it did not bother me. And all was forgotten. Except for every once in a while I would get a pain, and I would say "I have got to go get this fixed" and then forget again. Recently I have been in so much pain because of the tooth I made an appointment, they took x-rays and he tells me I need a root canal, an at least one tooth. I have waited so long that it has started to affect the tooth next to it. :\

So Tuesday I will be going in and letting them drill into my face! oh dear! As much anxiety I have built up because of this, I am equally looking forward to being able to eat on both sides of my mouth and not have to worry about something being too cold to drink, or those chips stabbing me in my tender little broken tooth. *sigh* Soon I will be back to normal! YAY

So remember me Tuesday afternoon as I will be laying in that chair, with a drill in my mouth, and very possibly squeezing the stuffing out of the arm rest... or some poor nurses hand! Oy!

My wonderful Saturday

This morning my husband and I wake up with no specific plans for the day ahead. Eat breakfast, mull around like an old couple, play with the dogs, I try to sneak back to bed (which was quickly interrupted). And I am told that I have a surprise in store for me... and that I better get up, and get ready. I am the type that LOVES surprises, but does not want to wait for them. I like the idea of being surprised, but I want you to tell me what it is now. I also am the type that is not very good at keeping surprises, well, a surprise!

We get dressed, and ready. Pile into the car, and head out. I quietly ask 'so where we going?' in hopes he will spill the beans like usual! It did not work. :/ Anywho... we are traveling down the road, and he says 'There it is', I look up, and what do I see?!? A familiar blue hood over the shop windows, and white lettering. We pulled into the GOODWILL STORE! Wahoo! My lovely man had found another Goodwill that I was not aware of, and took me treasure hunting!

My day was awesome just knowing that he had put the thought into finding it, keeping it a secret, and not complaining to leave while I dug around! I left there with an awesome Moroccan style lamp. (for $3 I might add) Being the crafty crafter I am... the first thing that goes through my mind is 'How can I change this?' I honestly think I like it just the way it is... for now anyways.

After we decide that we are both ready to go somewhere else, we agree to go to the nearest shopping center. Which we often tend to do, and window shop. We swing by the theater to see what is playing. Many titles that I personally have not heard of because we have not had cable in about 4 years.

We decide to go in and watch 'No Strings Attached' with Natalie Portman, and Ashton Kutcher. But not before sharing a 'Love it' sized Cotton Candy Ice Cream from the ColdStone Creamery neighboring the movie theater. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. In my mind it was done in good taste, and had me laughing, and even crying. I strongly urge you, and your significant other to go see this Rom Com together!

After leaving the movie, we head on over to the Ross store near our home. So many great things in that place. I purchase a wonderfully adorable teal colored porcelain elephant. He is my new favorite piece of decor in our home. My wonderful husband at this point has made his way next door to Borders Book Store. And if anyone knows him like I do... you know he could spend hours in a book store, and not buy a single book! I usually dread going there with him, but today was different.

I was not going to complain, or even just hold it back. I was going to enjoy our visit there. Rummaging through the clearance area, making my way over to the crafting section of the store, I find myself sucked into these wonderful books. For the first time ever in a book store, my husband said to me 'I'm ready to go dear' and I was not!

Before we knew it we had spent the entire day at the thrift store, watching a movie, sifting through goodies at Ross, and then books at Borders. Today was a good day in my book, and I cherish every moment I have to share with my wonderful husband. He does so much for me. I love you dear. <3

Dogs... You gotta love 'em!

Tonight was a lazy cooking day for me as I just popped a pizza in the oven. Although it was a DiGornio Stuffed Crust Pizza, and amazing... still not much work. I put the pizza on a pan, slid it into the oven, and walk out of the kitchen. Jetta, who is 10 years old, and very food driven I could hear jumping up to see what was on the counter top to snatch. I left the box, cardboard, and plastic on the counter. Upon reentering the kitchen, the cardboard, and plastic was on the floor. I wonder how that happened. :/

When it came time to eat, we sit at the table with out pizza, and yummy Salt & Vinegar chips. Mmm. I dare you to give a wild guess as to who is under the table hoping for something to fall so it can quickly be snatched up... uh huh, that's right... Jetta! She was very attentive to us for the duration of our meal. Even Gracie thought it smelled good enough to walk over to the table, and watch us eat it. Now keep in mind that I usually do not give in to them, they were just so cute, that neither of us could help but give them a little snack. They even ate the S&V chips with no hesitation!

Those are my girls. I love them, and would not trade them for anything. <3

And here is Jetta in her cone of shame. Look at that face... you can just see the evil ooozing out of her. You say you can't see it?! Look closer... she will steal your pizza with no hesitation, and knock over your trash can! Keep a look out for the cute ones. They are the ones that will take the food right off your plate, and lick the dirty dishes while they are still in the dish washer! Look at that evil little face... I just want to hug her! Matter of fact, that is what I am going to go do right now. Go cuddle with my kids, and husband! Goodnight.

Wow, how time flies!

Last time I posted I told you about my first phone call from my wonderful Husband since his leaving for BMT. That was almost 6 months ago to the day! And my oh my, how much things have changed!

Looking back, the time DH was away for BMT was... well, undesirable to say the least. Much harder than expected. But as you can tell I got through it in one piece! Graduation was awesome, and we had a great time hanging out. Too bad that only lasted a few days. Fast forward two more months, and I finally got to move in with my husband on the West Coast! YAY! And I must add that the second two months were much easier than the first two. Phone calls every night definitely helped. Another month went by (sleeping on an air mattress) before we got the movers set, and got our stuff out here. YAY! Now that I have every room unpacked, and somewhat in order.... time to DECORATE! And I mean decorate for real. I have so many ideas, and things I want to do. There is no way I can do everything that is floating around in my head.

Well that is all for now. I am going to strive for at least 2 posts a week.... this 365, everyday posting is too ambitious for me! See you soon!
